This Green Energy Scholarship Program is one of several scholarship programs hosted and operated by the Tabor 100 organization. Our supporting partner in this program is Puget Sound Energy [PSE].

There will be up to three $3,500 Green Energy Scholarships awarded, each potentially renewable for a total of three years. [Maximum full amount: $10,500 per scholar]

In selecting the Tabor 100 Green Energy Scholarships recipients, the selection committee will follow the guidelines outlined below. These guidelines are deemed to be critical elements in assessing the achievements, character, and future potential of the candidates under review. Taken as a whole, they afford an excellent evaluation metric, and the selection committee should take care not to put any one element above all others.

APPLICATION CRITERIA:
    1. The candidates shall be African American students, enrolled in or enrolling in an academic course of study that helps prepare them for a career in "Green Energy".
    2. All candidates will either 1] have a home residence, or 2] be pursuing a course of study at a college or university within the PSE Area of Service.
    3. The candidates shall have a track record of high academic achievement and/or potential.
    4. The candidates should be in clear financial need.
    5. The candidate's personal history and actions should be consistent with Tabor 100's mission:
    "Tabor 100 is an association of entrepreneurs and business advocates who are committed to economic power, educational excellence and social equity for African-Americans and the community at large."
    6. The candidates' personal history and actions should reflect that he or she has created, or is working to create, something of benefit to the next generation.
    7. The candidates' personal history and actions should show a willingness to pass-on their good fortune to others in need, and reflect a spirit of generosity.
    8. The candidates' personal history and actions should show that he or she is helping to build the community.

APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS

The Green Energy scholarships are offered to undergraduate and graduate students in colleges or universities within the Puget Sound Energy service area, or residents of that same service area attending university within the United States.

    1. All applications will be reviewed and scored based personal statement and essay, letters of recommendation, applicant responses, GPA, interview, and thoroughness of the application package.
    2. A Tabor/PSE selection panel will review finalist applications and an in-person or telephone interview will be required for final selection.
    3. Local award recipient[s] must be willing to attend an award event to be held in Seattle, Washington in mid-September, 2010.
    4. Application materials are attached, and are available for download at the Tabor 100 Web site.
    5. No applications will be mailed from or available in the Tabor 100 offices.
    6. All completed application packages must be received at the Tabor 100 office - Closing date extended to August 27, 2010.
    7. An email confirmation of receipt will be provided to each eligible applicant.
